Avalanche Trophy 2010

Weekend August 20-21 it´s once again time for Åre race in the Avalanche Cup. The competition is described as a downhill marathon with mass start. The course in Åre is 8.2 kilometers long and a vertical drop of approximately 950 meters. The start is at the cable car mountain station with the finish at Åre Town square.

 

Competition 2009 attracted participants from several countries including Finland, France, England, Norway and Sweden. The beauty of this competition is that bout professional as well as the happy amateurs is welcome. Around 100 riders started 2009. The time for best rider was a bit over 15 minutes while most were in around 20 minutes.

Winner was the Frenchman Karim Amour with his countryman Franck Parolin second while the Swedish flag was defended best by Niklas Wallner in third place.

On the women's side the winner was our local rider Hanne Oleträ with Jenny Ottosson at second and UK:s Alison Campbell at third.

The cable car is open daily while the lifts VM6.an, Hummeln and Bergbanan is open Fridays to Sundays until October 3.
